Arthritis tends to be misunderstood, and not understanding this disease, especially if you have been diagnosed with it, can make it difficult to live with. To help our patients understand the reality of arthritis, we provide three facts that shed light on a few popular myths.
Fact #1: Arthritis doesn’t only occur as a result of aging
This disease doesn’t just affect older adults. It’s been reported that two-thirds of people develop arthritis before the age of 65; approximately, 300,000 of these cases are for children. Arthritis is part of a complex group of musculoskeletal disorders, so it’s not just minor aches that come with age. Arthritis can be painful—it’s the leading cause of disability, according to the Arthritis Foundation.
Fact #2: People with arthritis don’t need just rest
Studies have revealed that moderate exercise can help slow down the development of osteoarthritis and rheumatic conditions. If you have arthritis in the knees, losing one pound can relieve the joints of four pounds of pressure.
Resistance and endurance training can help reduce inflammatory chemicals, so joint pain can be less noticeable.
Fact #3: Arthritis treatment in Urbana is not limited
Anti-inflammatory medicine isn’t the only treatment route available for relieving joint pain. Other treatments options are available, including a chiropractic adjustment.
Chiropractors utilize different adjustment techniques, such as spinal manipulation and mobilization. The point of an adjustment is to enhance the function of joints by reducing inflammation and pain.
