Arthritis can cause some people to experience chronic pain. If you are dealing with arthritic pain, you should visit our Potomac, Gaithersburg, Urbana and Clarksburg, MD, chiropractors. They will be able to help you manage your condition to help you get back on your feet and make sure that your pain doesn’t dictate your life.

What is arthritis?

Arthritis is a way of classifying joint pain and inflammation. Anyone can develop arthritis no matter their age or gender, and there are different types of arthritis.

What are the symptoms of arthritis?

If you have arthritis then you may experience joint stiffness, limited mobility in the joints, swelling and pain. You may find that symptoms wax and wane. Your symptoms could cause only mild flare-ups while others may experience debilitating pain. If you have severe arthritis, this could be the reason for your chronic pain. You may find it difficult to go about your day-to-day activities as a result of your symptoms. Over time, arthritis also has the ability to cause permanent damage to the joints.

What are my treatment options?

While some patients may choose to go to a doctor to get medications to help manage their symptoms, medication will only mask the pain and discomfort, it won’t improve how your body functions. While chiropractic care isn’t right for every type of arthritis (definitely talk to our Potomac, Gaithersburg, Urbana and Clarksburg chiropractic specialists beforehand if you have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and are considering chiropractic therapy) it can often ease the symptoms you experience with arthritis.

A common treatment option continues to be spinal manipulation, which can alleviate both neck and back pain. It’s a great way to realign the spinal joints to improve blood flow and joint mobility, all while decreasing pain and reducing swelling. Those dealing with joint dysfunction due to their arthritis will respond well to spinal manipulation.

A chiropractor can also offer a host of other treatments. When you come in for your first appointment we can determine whether one treatment alone or in conjunction with other therapies is the best option for comprehensively treating your symptoms. Other therapeutic modalities include:

  • Massage therapy
  • Stress management
  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
  • Ergonomic modifications
  • Weight management

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above it’s as good a time as any to pick up the phone and call King Chiropractic in Potomac, Gaithersburg, Urbana and Clarksburg, MD. You owe it to yourself to get the pain-relieving treatment you need.
