What Is Carpal Tunnel?
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition of the hands that happens when a nerve becomes pinched or squeezed in the wrist. The affected nerve (inside of what is called the carpal tunnel) causes pain and sometimes numbness from the fingers to the hands to the wrists and sometimes all the way up the arms. If you put your palms up and look at your wrist, you can see where the carpal tunnel is located—it controls the movement of each of your fingers.

What Causes Carpal Tunnel?
Carpal tunnel develops over time due to repeated motions that place strain on the nerve. Patients who have repetitive typing jobs, like data entry clerks and administrative assistants, often complain of carpal-related pain. The nerve usually becomes aggravated because of holding your hands and wrists incorrectly while typing or performing some other form of labor with your hands.

Common Treatments for this Syndrome
Your Marland chiropractor can help you relieve carpal tunnel injury with special chiropractic exercises (such as nerve gliding movements) and therapy. You may have to wear a hand-splint to stabilize the wrist and hand while it heals. In some advanced cases, carpal tunnel surgery may be necessary to repair and heal the nerve.
